Persistent depressive disorder, also called dysthymia (dis-THIE-me-uh), is a continuous long-term (chronic) form of depression. Described to us as the 'blue screen of death'. The concept was coined by Robert Spitzer as a replacement for the term "depressive personality" in the late 1970s.
